Updated: January 24, 2020 07:06 PM

While everyone's attention will be on the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race this weekend, but it was all about the small dogs Friday morning.

The Mini Sled Dog Races had all the action was at Canal Park Brewing. This unique race has been happening for over a decade and is one part of the Beargrease celebrations that many look forward to.

"It's funny to watch the dogs trying to pull these sleds," said Monica Dickerson, spokesperson for the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race. "Most of them can't even pull them in the lightweight category. It's great to be out here and we have a lot of fans that come out early in the morning. It's just a fun way to kick off the weekend."

The mini race has two categories for dogs less than 12 pounds, and dogs no more than 22 pounds.

Some of the pups had a little more trouble getting motivated to beat the competition, but it's a cute tease to the big race happening this Sunday.
