Mayou is a lifelong Duluthian, Duluth Public Schools graduate, and current student in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics at UMD.

Mayou says he decided to run for city council so he can make a difference for people all across the city.

"I'm running to bring new voices to the table, and bring that table to them, and I want Duluth to be an accessible, empowering, and sustainable city for everyone to live in," said Mayou.

Specifically, Mayou says he will work to address the shortage of affordable housing. He says this is one of the biggest problems in the city right now, but that it will also take a community conversation to solve.

Mayou is the fifth candidate to file for the two at-large seats on the city council, setting the stage for a primary election in August.
