Woman killed in crash in Midway Township

A Midway Township woman died on Friday morning in a crash.

Investigators said it appeared that Leah Joy Sarko, 48, had been heading east on Ugstad Junction, and was turning north on Ugstad Road. The Sheriff's Office said she was hit by a vehicle heading south on Ugstad Road.

An 11-year-old boy was in her vehicle, and is hospitalized at Essentia with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the sheriff's office, the 18-year-old driver of the other vehicle, Jesse Kowalczak, was taken to St. Luke's with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities went on to say that fog and speed appear to be a factor.
