Students, staff, the Mesabi East school board, and Aurora Mayor Doug Gregor were all in attendance to witness what they call a "historical moment" for Mesabi East. The project has been long in the making.

"We ran into trouble with wetlands and historical reviews and permits and we had to postpone everything but we all came together and we are ready to get started today," Gregg Allen, the superintendent for Mesabi East, said.

The $9.7 million project will feature an artificial turf football field with an eight lane track, an artificial turf baseball field with a full soccer field in the outfield, a grandstand with stadium seating, a press box, and a concession stand. There will also be additional parking.
