McGregor Father Charged After 2-Year-Old Was Shot in the Eye With BB Gun

A McGregor father has been charged after his 2 1/2-year-old son was shot in the eye with a BB gun. 


According to the Aitkin Co. Sheriff's Office, the toddler was rushed to the Riverwood Healthcare Center emergency room Monday evening with the injury. Authorities say the boy had been in his father's care when he suffered the injury. 

He was flown to the Twin Cities for treatment. Authorities haven't released his condition. 

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed at the child's home in McGregor on the 300 Block of Kirsch St. N.E. The child's father, 38-year-old Dale Vernon Preston was arrested. 

He has now been charged with several felony counts including 3rd degree assault, child endangerment and having methamphetamine paraphernalia in the presence of a child. 

It has not been said how the child was shot. 

Bail was set at $2,500 with conditions, $25,000 bond with conditions, or both at $75,000 with no conditions. He remained in Jail as of late Friday afternoon. 

He will appear in court again on February 25, 2020.
