The incident was reported just after 10 p.m. Tuesday in Marenisco Township. Sheriff Pete Matonich said despite the suspect's tree cutting, the victim was able to safely flee the residence shortly before an officer arrived.

Officers established communication with the 37-year-old suspect, who surrendered without incident a short time later.

The man faces possible charges of domestic assault and possession of firearms while intoxicated.

Michigan State Police, Marenisco Township Police, and the Lac Vieux Desert Tribal Police assisted the Gogebic County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
