Deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Fond Du Lac Police Department responded to the 3500 Block of Brevator Road shortly after 5:00 after a caller advised a man had been shot. On scene, they found 65-year-old James Arthur Couture deceased.

The Minnesota BCA was called to assist officers on scene, and preliminary investigation indicates Couture was killed by a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff's office.

A 42-year-old Brevator Township man has been booked into the St. Louis County Jail on a preliminary charge of second degree murder. Formal charges are pending.

The sheriff's office says the incident occurred at the 42-year-old's man residence. Sgt. Erik Peterson says Couture and the 42-year-old man were friends.

Three other adults were present at the scene and all were acquaintances of one another, according to the sheriff's office.

This incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Minnesota BCA and the Fond Du Lac Police Department.
