A 56-year-old Cloquet man suffered a "serious" head injury in a UTV accident on Sunday afternoon in New Independence Township.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says they responded to the area of Highway 53 and Swan Lake Road around 2:30 Sunday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says it appears as though the man was executing a U-Turn when his UTV overturned, causing him to be ejected and the UTV to land on him.

The man was not seatbelted in and was not wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff's office.

He was transported by Mayo Ambulance to Essentia Health St. Mary's in Duluth.

The accident remains under investigation.
