Soon, an expanded clinic in Superior will be able to take care of many healthcare needs under one roof.
Lake Superior Community Health Center broke ground Friday afternoon on the clinic in Superior's East End.
"We see this as a very tangible example that we are so committed to this community, that we are also committed to growth, both growth with staff and with patients," CEO Jessie Peterson said.
The clinic will house medical, dental, chiropractic, behavioral health, and more.
"One of our key missions as a community health center is to provide integrated care," Peterson said. "What that really means is that if a patient comes in the door for medical but they disclose to their provider they could really use a behavioral health appointment or dental care or chiropractic or healthcare navigation, that we're able to then walk that patient over to that department and do that nice handoff."
She said the clinic doesn't turn anyone away, no matter their income or insurance coverage. They're also planning a "patient pantry."
"We are going to have a room that's open to our patients for free dry goods, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, clothing, books. And it's just there. It's free for our patients because we know that so many of those factors are what really impact someone's well being," Peterson said.
Lake Superior Community Health Center has two locations in Duluth, one in Carlton, and two in Superior. The two existing Superior spots will be consolidated into the new building.
They expect construction to take 6-7 months and hope to cut the ribbon in January 2022.
