Body Recovered after Car Goes Into Kettle River, Driver in Custody

One man is dead after the car he was in ended up in the Kettle River in Willow River.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office says they received multiple 911 calls around 3:48 p.m. of a car that had gone into the river. Authorities say there were three occupants in the car. The driver, along with another passenger made it out of the car and swam to shore. 

A dive team from Stacy/Lent Fire Department later found the body of a 47-year-old man around 6 p.m. in the car. It was sumberged in about 14 feet of water.

The sheriff's office says the driver, who is a 43-year-old man from Pine County area, was taken to jail. He is facing a possible criminal vehicular operation charge.

The other passenger was seen at the scene and did not require any further medical attention.
