Ontario Provincial Police say the body of 72-year-old Robert Sare of Shuniah, Ontario, was located in the Jackpine River on Sunday evening.  The search had begun Saturday morning after police received a distress call from an emergency locator beacon on the river about 8 kilometers (5 miles) north of Highway 17.

A witness told officers that Sare had become submerged and trapped in rocks in the rapids and did not resurface.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team, and the OPP Aviation Services helicopter conducted the search.
