The Duluth News Tribune reports that James Montano has been found guilty in the shooting death of 57-year-old Andrew Gokee of Wisconsin Rapids. The jury of seven men and five women spent nearly seven hours deliberating, according to the DNT. They delivered the verdict to the judge just after midnight Wednesday morning.

The panel found Montano guilty on all charges: premeditated first-degree murder, intentional second-degree murder, and attempted premeditated first-degree murder. The incident happened in April of 2018 at Montano's father's home on Kari Road in Progress Township. Gokee was found there with a gunshot wound to the head. According to the DNT, the prosecutor presented the argument that Montano consciously made the decision to retrieve a firearm and lie in wait for Gokee and his son, Hudson Gauthier, opening fire as they prepared to leave the residence. The prosecutor argued that met the legal threshold for premeditation.

The DNT reports Montano stood emotionless as the verdict was read. He will receive an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole. The sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
