Update: Eveleth Police locate shooting suspect

Eveleth police are investigating a shooting from Monday. After asking for the public's help to locate the suspect, police have arrested Jamar Maurice Smith, 29. Smith was transported to the Virginia St. Louis County Jail and booked in on 2nd Degree Assault-Firearm-Substantial Bodily Harm and Domestic Assault.

Police responded to the Subway parking lot around 10:30 a.m. saying Smith had shot into a vehicle.

A woman driving the vehicle is being treated for minor injuries. Investigators said those were from an assault involving Smith. The male passenger is being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his head. He is expected to survive his injuries.

According to the press release, the parties do know each other.

Smith was considered armed and dangerous. He was taken into custody on the 800 block of 12th Street North in Virginia. 

Collaboration efforts were from the Eveleth Police Department, Virginia Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff's Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The Eveleth Police would also like to thank the public for their information and assistance to this incident.
