Crews battled a house fire in Virginia and wildland fire in the Palo area near Aurora on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters from Aurora, Palo, and Lakeland along with the US Forest Service and the Minnesota DNR battled the wildland fire. The fire, which was located along the Trigstad Road, consumed 17-20 acres, according to the Northland FireWire.

In Virginia, multiple fire crews responded just after 6:00 Sunday to a house fire in the 200 block of 2nd Street South in Virginia. According to the Northland FireWire, initial reports are the fire started in the porch area, and spread to other parts of the house. 

Virginia, Eveleth, Mountain Iron, Fayal, Gilbert, and Hibbing firefighters responded. The residents were able to get out safely.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
