The giant Christmas tree won't shine down on Lake Ave. and Superior St. from the Minnesota Power Plaza this year.
The plaza is still under construction, which coincided with Phase 3 of the Superior St. project.
Instead, the company is donating $10,000 worth of needed supplies to local nonprofits.
Of that, $2,500 went to Life House to fill gift bags with socks, mittens, hand warmers and hand sanitizer. Life House serves homeless and at risk youth.
CHUM received $5,000 toward winter footwear and a holiday meal at the Rainbow Center Warming Shelter.
Kids Closet also received $2,500 for winter gear.
Minnesota Power plans to bring the Christmas tree back next year.
