Over 500 people stood on the ice of Island Lake Sunday afternoon for United Northern's 67th annual Ice Fishing Contest.

“Today is a really good day for ice fishing. The temperatures in the high 20's and it's good enough to have everybody out with the kids so that's what we're here for,” Bob Kuettel, Vice President for United Northern Sportsman said.

According to Kuettel, the contest raises money for the United Northern Sportsman's youth fund.

Through the youth fund, kids ages ten to eighteen-years-old are able to participate in a variety of outdoor activities and hear from DNR experts.

At the contest, the best catches were weighed, labeled and proudly displayed for all to see. The one who got the biggest fish won.
