A horse died after falling through the ice on a pond in Clinton Township Sunday afternoon, according to the Northland Fire Wire.

The Northland Fire Wire reports Clinton and Virginia firefighters were dispatched to the 8600 Block of Highway 37 around 12:40, but the horse went under the water, and died before crews could arrive.

The owner of the horse contacted The Northland Fire Wire to express his deep appreciation for the rescue effort and the compassion shown by all of the those who responded.
