Here is what the veterans had to say:

"The trick is to just get the wristband, it's like $30, and just go to one or two bands a night," Tom Maloney, who plays in Four Mile Portage, said. "You can be in bed by 10 o'clock and see like four bands."

"My best advice for Homegrown newbies is to plan ahead. Get your catalog, go on the website, look to see who you'd like to see, make notes, write things down and give yourself kind of a schedule," Victor Krause said "Try to follow it. Most of the time, you won't because you can't get from every place to every place like you want to."

"My advice is go where you don't expect to like something. Just go, and you'll be amazed at what you hear," Kathleen Busche said.

"Pick a spot and stay there. It's really tempting to jump from bar to bar to bar and see everybody, but you'll be waiting in lines, and then it gets late and you have to pee and you get in fights," Elena Hammerling offered. "Just pick a spot and stick with it. Maybe you won't see all the bands that you're planning on, but you'll see new people."

"It's snowing out, and it's really beautiful because a lot of us, we don't care," Terry McCarthy said. "Even with this kind of less than mediocre weather, you still see all the smiles. Joy is prevalent."
