A Hermantown man has been sentenced to three years of probation for failure to pay taxes.

Matthew Shykes, 60, was arrested in March and charged with sex trafficking and racketeering. He and his wife owned several Twin Ports massage businesses out of which authorities allege women were exchanging sex acts for money.

Shykes later pleaded guilty to a charge of failure to pay taxes, and the other two charges were dropped as part of the deal.

His wife, Shuangyan Yang, pleaded guilty to racketeering. She was also sentenced to probation. It was indicated in court that she would likely be deported.

Yang is currently on the Douglas County jail roster with a note that she is being detained for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
