Mike Furtman and his wife have dreamed about having a cabin for years. Last year, the dream came true. "We finally found this perfect little place." But now, they are worried about it going up in smoke in the Greenwood Fire. Their cabin is on the chain of McDougal lakes.

"We had just come home after spending a couple of week up there. And then a friend of mine called and said he heard there was a fire in the area," Furtman said. So he rushed back up on Monday morning, and that's when he got the evacuation notice.

"They gave us two hours to grab what we could," he remembered. "It took us months to make it our own."

He then went back up on Tuesday. The wildlife photographer and writer took some videos and pictures. "The cabin was still standing, and there was a lot of smoke in the air. It felt like being in the middle of an airport, with all the planes."

Furtman is very grateful for all the work of the fire crews and forest service and sheriff's department.

For now, he and the others wait, and worry. "I'm trying to keep busy, and staying on top of the updates from the Forest Service," he said. "But I have a knot in my stomach. And for the other owners, they have been there for generations. They really welcomed us in. It's like a little village."
