Grandma's Marathon is offering complimentary bicycle valet services for attendees and runners as an environmentally friendly alternative.

A bike valet will help in temporary secure bike parking. It'll be like a coat check, they'll tag your bike and provide you with a claim stub.

It's part of Grandma's Marathon sustainability efforts. The bike valet will be offered at the Lake City Lot in Canal Park. The parking lot is between The Inn on Lake Superior and Comfort Suites. The bike valet is free for everyone to try.

The bike valet was tried for Grandma’s Park Point Five Miler last year and was a big success.

Grandma’s Marathon Executive Director Shane Bauer said this will make a difference in reducing traffic for spectators and will also help reduce the environmental footprint of the event with less cars on the roads.

"It’s right along the lake walk and you can leave your bike with officials there. We'll have somebody to watch that for you. It'll probably be quicker than the traffic depending on what time you're coming down to Canal Park but it'll be great service to reduce some of that traffic and logistics of getting to Canal Park on marathon weekend,” Bauer said.

The bike valet service has been offered by the Young Athletes Foundation in the past for secure bike storage for participants and attendees at their events. This will be the first year this will be attempted for Grandma’s Marathon in a effort to encourage folks to bike down to the race.

It is part of several efforts Grandma's Marathon is doing to be a environmentally friendly event. Another thing you'll see across Canal Park is green stations where people can dispose trash, recycling, and compost.
