Marketing manager Jane Pederson said, “The dresses have been in the Glensheen collection, they’ve been in drawers, they’ve been in their proper collection storage, and now they are coming to life, and we are showing them to you, the public.”

16 gowns can be found throughout the mansion. They include party dresses that were jeweled by hand, authentic furs, and wedding dresses.

Pederson said Director Dan Hartman got the idea from a museum he recently visited with hundreds of Dior gowns on display. "It was kind of the inspiration for the Gowns of Glensheen exhibit, for us to say, ‘you know what, we can do this, too,’” Pederson said.

Some of the gowns stand next to photos of them being worn. Pederson said, “The dress that’s in the master bedroom, we have a photo of Clara Congdon wearing that dress, which we are pretty sure she wore to her son Walter’s wedding in 1914, which is really special.”

The exhibit will run through Labor Day.
