Golden Bear Foundation Continues to Fundraise for Kids

Many people feel attached to their high school. Ben Delich is no exception. The former Golden Bear had an idea last year. "I wanted to give back to the school I went through. And the kids coming up the ranks. I thought, why don't we start a bonspiel and see how it goes," Delich said.

It went really well! Through nine weeks of fundraising and major contributors like John Mayasich, Brian Maki, and Madeline Delich, they were able to bring in $58,000.

That money has been going out to different groups, like the One Act Play.

"I'm really happy to say that thanks to the generous donors, we've been able to award $6000 to 12 or 13 different groups," shared JoJo Scott, school liaison.

Those dollars help parents and kids focus on the fun, rather than the fundraising.

"All the money raised goes to students only. Nothing to coaches or advisors," Scott shared.

With the current collaboration with Virginia, the Foundation said they can continue to operate to support students in the Eveleth-Gilbert system. If consolidation happens, they will find a way to keep growing the foundation and help kids.

The second annual Funspiel for the Foundation is coming up March 13 and 14th in Eveleth.
