Sheriff Tom Dalbec said Bergson, 61, was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Lake Nebagamon and faces possible charges of Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device and Obstructing. He was arrested on Tuesday at 5:17 p.m.

Bergson made a video appearance in court Wednesday afternoon and was released an hour later on $1,000 bond.

In 2005, when he was mayor of Duluth, Bergson pleaded no contest to operating while intoxicated after a crash in Washburn County. Court records indicate he was also convicted of OWI for incidents in 2012 and 2013 in southern Wisconsin.

Bergson had served as a Superior police officer before being elected mayor of Superior and then Duluth. He sought re-election in 2007 but lost in the primary.
