Following two days of heavy rain and thunderstorms, many parts of northwestern Wisconsin are experiencing major flooding. Some areas have reported over 13 inches of rainfall.  Crews are out looking at the roads to make sure the area is safe for motorists. Please use caution. Travel is not advised.  WisDOT technical experts, engineers and field staff continue to assess roadway damages and monitor high water levels.

Here is an updated list from WisDOT as of 5:00 p.m. on June 18: Current closures due to flooding in northern Wisconsin:

Ashland County

Highway: WIS 169
Location: Stricker Rd to Potato River Rd, Mellen to US 2
Condition: Water over road.
Detour: No posted detour.

Bayfield County

Highway: US 2
Location: At North Fish Creek (east of Ino), approximately 1 mile east of the intersection with County G.
Condition: Road completely washed out.
Detour: WIS 27, WIS 77, WIS 13

Highway: US 63
Location: Between US 2 and Drummond
Condition: Water over the road in multiple locations.
Detour: WIS 27, WIS 77, WIS 13

Burnett County

Highway: WIS 35
Location: Riverside, Burnett County H to Big Island Road
Condition: Water over the roadway and impassable.
Detour: No posted detour.

Highway: WIS 77
Location: St. Croix River Bridge at the MN border
Condition: Water over the roadway and impassable.
Detour: No posted detour.

Douglas County

Highway: US 2/53, East 2nd Street
Location: City of Superior, Nemadji River
Condition: Water over the road.
Detour: Southbound traffic moved to the northbound lanes; reducing US 2/53 to one lane in each direction.

Highway: US 53 southbound
Location: Between Huron Road and County A (near Solon Springs)
Condition: Closed due to culvert washouts.
Detour: Southbound traffic moved to the northbound lanes; reducing US 53 to one lane in each direction between Bennett and Business 53 (Solon Springs)

Highway: WIS 35
Location: Black River Bridge, Pattison State Park
Condition: Water over the roadway and impassable.
Detour: No posted detour.

Highway: WIS 35
Location: County B to County T in Dairyland
Condition: Water over the roadway and impassable.
Detour: No posted detour.

Iron County

Highway: WIS 169
Location: At the Tyler Forks bridge, northeast of Mellen. Highway closed at WIS 13 and US 2 (near Gurney)
Condition: Water over the road.
Detour: No posted detour.

Highway: WIS 77
Location: Between Casey Sag Road and WIS 122, west of Upson. Highway closed at WIS 13 and US 51 (Hurley).
Condition: Repairs made to allow emergency access. Opening to through traffic this evening.
Detour: Traffic currently detoured via WIS 13, US 2, and US 51. Will be opening up to 1-lane, 2-way traffic with temporary traffic signals this evening.

Repairs will be made if weather conditions permit. Motorists are reminded:

  • DO NOT drive through flooded roadways. If a there is water over the road, turn around and report the condition to local authorities.
  • DO NOT drive around barricades.
