The Cable Fire Department says it responded to a report of smoke coming out of the building at U.S. Highway 63 and County Road M at about 8 p.m. Thursday.  Since the building was under construction, the fire chief decided to keep crews out of the building and take a defensive stance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Crews were on the scene in subzero temperatures for five hours.

Firefighters from six departments responded, including Cable, Drummond, Namakagon, Grandview and the City and Town of Hayward.  Great Divide Ambulance and the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office were also on the scene.
