The fire on Swan Lake Road in Ness Township was reported at 9:40 a.m.  The sheriff's office said the cabins were unoccupied and there were no signs of recent activity; the first unit to arrive at the scene had to plow an access road to reach the cabin.

The two cabins were close to each other on a recreational property, and the fire spread from one cabin to another.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies learned that an electric heater in one of the cabins had been replaced about two months ago, but the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.  The fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters from the Grand Lake, Floodwood, and Alborn departments responded to the scene.
