Financial options for students going to college

College-bound students are excited to get on campus after a year of uncertainty. The pandemic affected many people's finances and put an additional strain on students struggling to pay for college.

But there are still options available for students to take advantage of.

"Seeking out financial aid in any way possible is the best step," says Barry Bigelow from Great Waters Financial. "There are billions of dollars of scholarships out there for everything from being vegetarian to snowboarding. In addition to scholarships, make sure that you're filling out a FAFSA."

Alongside of this, the Biden administration has been talking about loan forgiveness.

Bigelow says it may be advantageous if your student is eligible for a deferred federal student loan, to take the loan instead of paying the money out of pocket and waiting to see if loan forgiveness is something that comes up through legislation.
