The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened around 3:15 p.m. in Twin Lakes Township, located in Carlton County. A PT Cruiser attempted to make a U-turn, using a median crossover from the southbound side, when it was struck by a southbound pickup truck.

Authorities say an 84-year-old Alexandria resident died in the incident. The identification of that person was set to be released Monday.

A 38-year-old driver and 2-year-old passenger in the pickup truck were not injured.
