Police report that an ATV crash in Barnum Township killed a female in her 40's on Saturday.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at the intersection of County Road 139 and County Road 6 at approximately 11:40am.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been the driver of an ATV and had been riding in a group of ATVs.

Police say the group was traveling South on County Road 139, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 6. Due to the dry conditions, the group of ATVs had created a large amount of dust on the gravel road.

Authorities believe that due to limited visibility from the dust, the victim did not see the approaching intersection. When the victim attempted to stop her ATV, she lost control and the ATV rolled over on top of her.

Multiple agencies responded to the call and a Life Link III helicopter was sent to the scene.

The victim was transported to Essentia Hospital St Mary’s in Duluth, but sadly, died at the hospital later in the day.

Police say the victim was wearing a helmet and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, however the crash is still under investigation.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
