Eveleth's police chief is retiring this month. Tim Koivunen has lead the department since 2012, and been in law enforcement for 30 years. 19 of them were in Virginia, before he came back to Eveleth.

"It has truly been an honor and privilege being able to retire as Chief of Police in my hometown,"  he said in a statement. "Eveleth/Fayal Township and surrounding communities have been so supportive of me and our department and other law enforcement agencies."

He went on to thank all area law enforcement who are protecting and serving, and his family for their support.

The city council is scheduled to vote on posting the position at their meeting on Tuesday.
