With about 20 musicals under his belt, 16 year-old Logan Johnsrud is no stranger to performing. His mom Delana Johnsrud said, "When he's up there, he really connects with the crowd."

This year, Logan decided to test his talents at the Minnesota State Fair. He said, "I was just looking for something different, you know?"

Logan stuck to his roots performing a song from the musical "She Loves Me." "I didn't think many people were gonna include aspects of musical theater and moving around, so I thought that could give me a leg up in the competition," Logan said.

The big difference between auditioning for a musical and auditioning at the State Fair is a live crowd numbering in the hundreds. Logan said, "I was like, 'wow!' I got up on stage and I was like, 'That's a lot of people!"

It was the first time Delana got to see her son audition. She said he fed off of the energy of the crowd. "You have lots of people hooting and hollering so it gets in your skin," Delana said.

Logan ended up wowing the crowd and making it onto the semifinals. The teen category of the talent competition is now down to Logan and 8 others who will compete in the finals Sunday, September 1st.

Delana said, "I'm a proud mom. He works really hard and for this to go as far as it has already, it just proves that all of that hard work, it pays off."

When asked if he thought he could win, Logan said, "With a lot of hard work and dedication, with a lot of hope, yeah, hopefully.'"

However Logan places in the finals, he'll have the support of his family. Delana said, "Just seeing him up there doing what he does best just makes my heart go pitter patter."
