DULUTH, Minn. – A Duluth teen was crowned Miss Minnesota Teen USA.
Gwendolyn Buchanan took home the top honor during Sunday night's pageant in Burnsville.
A panel of judges selected Buchanan to represent Minnesota and compete next year at the Miss Teen USA national pageant. The annual competition consists of three segments: evening gown, swimwear/activewear, and interview. Pageant organizers say Buchanan will receive thousands of dollars in prizes and awards.
Taylor Fondie of Ham Lake was also selected Sunday as Miss Minnesota USA.
The Miss USA and Miss Teen USA beauty pageants aim to "empower women to be self-confident and strive to be their personal best." According to its website, the pageants "provide an international platform through dedicated partnerships with charities, sponsors, and brands around the world. During their reign, winners are given the tools to personally and professionally enrich others by providing humanitarian efforts to affect positive change, all while developing their personal career goals."
