Twin Ports Sees Slight Job Loss over Year

The greater Twin Ports area has seen a slight job loss over the past year, according to statistics released Thursday by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

The March jobs numbers show that the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Statistical Area has 614 fewer jobs than it did one year ago, a 0.5 percent decline. The MSA includes Carlton, Douglas, and St. Louis counties.

Statewide, Minnesota gained a total of 1,300 jobs over the year.

March's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Minnesota was 3.2 percent, up from 3.1 percent in March.  Wisconsin's rate remained at 2.9 percent for the second month in a row, while Michigan's rate was 4 percent for a sixth month in a row.

The national rate was 3.8 percent.
