"This week, Mayor Emily Larson and I received and accepted a letter of resignation of Dennis Edwards as Fire Chief of the Duluth Fire Department," Duluth Chief Administrative Officer Noah Schuchman said in a prepared statement

Schuchman said Deputy Chief Shawn Krizaj is serving as Interim Fire Chief.  Edwards is reverting back to his prior position as assistant fire chief as specified by the union contract.

"The City of Duluth thanks Dennis Edwards for his service as Fire Chief for the City of Duluth," Schuchman said.

Edwards was placed on administrative leave following an arrest for DWI on March 30. Edwards was formally charged with two counts of third-degree DWI, which are gross misdemeanors.

Edwards made his first appearance in court Thursday but waived a formal reading of the criminal complaint and requested an omnibus hearing. It’s scheduled for April 29.
