Duluth B Company Marines Reunite to Honor 69th Anniversary of Call to Active Duty

The Duluth B Company Marines marched down Superior Street as they set out to begin their service in the Korean War on August 21st, 1950. Remaining marines gathered at the Glensheen Mansion Thursday with their families and the families of some who have passed.

Duluth B Company Marines Chairman Dale Erickson said, "It's very special for us to gather. There's just a few of us left, I think there's going to be 10 B Company Marines here with us today."

Erickson said they estimate 30 B Company Marines are still with us. They remain a close-knit group with some continuing to meet every month. They hold a reunion every August to celebrate the anniversary of their call to service and honor the nearly 200 original marines who are no longer with us.

Marine Lloyd Anderson said, "It's great to get back and see everybody and how they're feeling and what they're doing."

Erickson said the unit truly embodies comradery. "A band of soldiers, or marines in this case, that have been together and been in combat and formed this bond that has been carried on, and it's as strong now as it ever was," he said.

It's that lifelong friendship that makes the reunion the highlight of the year for some. Marine Don Androsky said, "It's something that's always been in my heart and I wouldn't miss it."

As the marines reminisce the stories only they can tell, it's just as special of an experience for the families and friends.

"I've been looking at a lot of the photos and hearing a lot of the stories, and I can't tell you what an experience it is. It's very much an honor," Glensheen event manager Regina Christensen said. Glensheen donated the venue for Thursday's gathering and offered free tours.
