Pending a finalized contract and transition from her current position, Starzecki will begin her new job on July 1. She will replace Janna Stevens, who is retiring after nine years in the position.

"The [Superior School] Board is looking forward to working with Amy," President Len Albrecht said in a news release. "Amy is a great advocate of public education, and we are very excited about what she will bring to our district."

Starzecki received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota and her masters from Northern Arizona University. She obtained several licenses through Saint Mary’s University in Minneapolis, where she also currently serves as an adjunct professor for graduate level courses in educational leadership.

Starzecki began her career as a school psychologist and later worked in special education leadership roles before becoming a school principal in Deer River, Minn., and then the superintendent and principal in Floodwood, Minn. She has worked for the Duluth district since 2015.
