The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. on County Highway 8 at the intersection with State Highway 33 in Industrial Township. The patrol sergeant said he noticed a vehicle traveling in his direction on his side of the road.

The vehicle failed to correct lanes and ran a stop sign, according to the sergeant. That's when the sergeant stopped his patrol vehicle, began reversing to avoid being hit, and activated the vehicle's emergency lights.

However, the other vehicle hit the squad head-on. Neither driver was hurt and the damage to the vehicles was minimal.

According to a criminal complaint, a breath test found 25-year-old Cody Aaron Joyal had a blood alcohol concentration three times the limit to drive. He was charged with third-degree driving while impaired, which is a gross misdemeanor.

Joyal was still in jail as of late Wednesday afternoon.
