Denfeld Principal Placed on Administrative Leave

The principal at Denfeld High School, Tonya Sconiers, has been placed on administrative leave, according to the Duluth School District.

In response to a data request from WDIO News, the district said Sconiers was the subject of allegations. The nature of those investigations remain private at this time, according to the response.

She was placed on leave on June 18, per the district. An investigation has been conducted.

With the new school year approaching, the district said they will name an experienced substitute principal shortly. There are two experienced assistant principals in place to support the beginning of the new school year.

A Minneapolis law firm representing Sconiers said they have been investigating legal claims against Duluth Public Schools on Sconier's behalf since April.

"The district placed Principal Sconiers on leave more than six weeks after we first informed the district about our investigation," attorney Ben Kwan wrote in a statement.

The law firm, Haller Kwan, said they have advised Sconiers not to make any public statements while they work to resolve her legal claims.

"Rest assured, if Principal Sconiers is forced to take legal action, the public will hear much more from her and us," Kwan wrote.

The attorney said no suit against the district has been filed at this time.
