DULUTH - The Denfeld High School's class of 1948 celebrated their 70th reunion with a heartfelt and intimate gathering Wednesday at Valentini’s Vicino Lago.

"There’s a lot of lasting friendships. We all came from the same neighborhood," Don Olson, a member from the class of 1948, said.

A 70th high school reunion is an event not many people can say they've experienced.

"It’s tremendous. We got 48 registered today and I think that's kind of a tribute of graduating in 48," Gloria Lund, a member from the class of 1948, said.

Many years have passed for Denfeld's class of 1948, but the memories they share haven’t faded.

"I remember the Denfeld center football games, that was something else, " Rosemary Stratiote, a member from the class of 1948, said.

"You go through the remember whens and it’s very nice to see as many that are here because we're all fairly close," Dave Bouschor, a member from the class of 1948, said.

The tight-knit friendship the class shares is something that has kept them connected over the years.

"I don't mean to brag, but as we went through school, our class of 48, every year, through high school and junior high school, seemed to excel. It was just a group of very talented people," Bouschor said.

The reunion was a time to catch up and reflect on how far everyone has gone.

"A lot of us have been successful. A lot of us have done very well and we have a lot of children and grandchildren," Olson said.

The gathering was also a time to honor and remember those who couldn’t be at the reunion.

"It’s kind of emotional, knowing a lot of the people that left. A lot of the people we went to school with aren’t here anymore. They were good friends," Olson said.

"It was just a great class. Everybody just got together and were good friends always and still are," Lund said.

As the class closes a chapter with their reunions, what wont remain closed is the special bond they share.

"We're going to have some good songs here as we sing today and we're going to sing our ‘Dear Old Denfeld High School’," Olson said.  "We never forget that one."

At the age of 88, the class said this will be the last big reunion they host. They said they'll continue to do gatherings in the future but they'll be smaller reunions.
