UPDATE: Authorities Identify Deer Hunter Fatally Shot in Aitkin County

The Aitkin County Sheriff's Department has identified the man who died of a gunshot wound suffered while deer hunting early Saturday afternoon near McGrath.

He was 56-year-old Gregory J. Nase of Columbus, Minnesota.

A release said a 911 call was received around 12:59 p.m. Nase had been hunting on family-owned land in Milward Township, which is six miles northeast of McGrath . Authorities believe a shot or shots were fired at a moving deer accidentally hit the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The matter is under investigation by both the sheriff's department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
