After years of sitting empty, the former Days Inn in Eveleth is coming down.

Demolition began about two weeks ago, and could take through the rest of the month. Mayor Bob Vlaisavljevich told us that the city will purchase the property once the county has finished clearing the site. "It's been a long six years. We don't have anything concrete for that spot yet. But the IRRRB and the city will be working on that."

The exact price has not been agreed upon, but the cost of demolition was lower than anticipated, Vlaisvljevich added.

Decades ago, the property was a popular Holiday Inn, and boasted conference rooms and Lord Stanley's restaurant. Others tried to run it as a hotel, but never really gained traction. This past summer, fire crews used the inside for training.
