Education Minnesota, the teachers union, and the school district had also been negotiating the 2017-19 contracts for nearly two years.

The 2017-19 contract includes a 1 percent salary increase for both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years, according to Education Minnesota. The 2019-21 contract restructures the pay scale to increase starting salaries to attract new teachers and improves salaries for more veteran Chisholm teachers to keep them in the community and sustain their families.

After a second mediation session March 28, they reached a resolution. Superintendent Janey Blanchard said the school board was not voting on the 2017-19 contract Monday night because they already approved it Aug. 27, 2018.

“The top priority of the union from Day 1 was to reach a fair and competitive contract agreement to allow Chisholm to continue to attract and keep top-quality educators for the students in our communities,” said Tim Provinzino, president of Education-Minnesota Chisholm. “We were able to do just that during mediation.”
