Much of the BWCA will reopen Saturday after the whole area was closed to due to wildfire risk.

The U.S. Forest Service said recent rains, cooling temperatures, and progress on active fires led to the reopening.

"After talking with our fire experts about the latest data and weather conditions, we believe we have the capacity to manage the potential risk to the public of wildfire in some portions of the Forest," Superior National Forest Supervisor Connie Cummins said.

The entire BWCA has been closed since Aug. 21. There are still some areas closed around the Greenwood, John Ek, and Whelp fires.

Remaining permits for Sept. 4 and later will be available starting at noon on Sept. 4 on recreation.gov

Closure updates will be posted on the Superior National Forest website
