They identified the person Friday as Christopher John Quirk, a 52-year-old from Chisholm. The sheriff's office says his family reported him missing in May 2018.

A person discovered his body while walking in the woods near Highway 53 in Wuori Township, north of Virginia, just after 5 p.m. Wednesday and called 911.  Sheriff's deputies responded and found a badly decomposed and frozen body.

The sheriff's office said the cause of death appears to have been self-inflicted, and foul play is not suspected at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
