Former Police, Fire Chief Killed in Garbage Truck Accident

Gilbert police confirmed that one man died on Monday morning after being pinned by a garbage truck.  The Gilbert Police Department identified the victim as 61-year-old Steven Allen Stoks of Hoyt Lakes.

Stoks was the former police chief and fire chief in Hoyt Lakes. Colleagues are now mourning his loss.

They responded to 310 Main Street in Biwabik around 8:30 a.m. There, they found Stoks who had been pinned between a garbage truck, fence, and a dumpster.

Gilbert Police, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating.

Biwabik Fire and Ambulance assisted. Police Chief Ty Techar would also like to thank citizens that assisted during the incident.
