The event is about offering an inclusive and adaptive environment for kids with disabilities to play sports and have fun.

Children with disabilities in grade kindergarten through fifth grade from 18 schools in the Arrowhead region were having a blast playing games like big ball volleyball and hockey.

Over 100 kids participated in fun adapted recreational activities like bowling, wheelchair races, joggling, and more. Volunteers organized different stations for them.

Kids had 15 minutes to enjoy each station before heading to the next one. The goal of the event is to gives kids with disabilities a chance to make friends and participate in activities that they otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to do.

There were a lot of smiles and laughs at the UMD Field House as kids, parents, and volunteers were playing a mix of adapted games.

"My daughter has done power soccer and she's done downhill skiing through the Courage center and this program kind of gets them exposed to all these activities. They have so much fun,” Robin Johnson, a volunteer, said.

Robin used to be an adaptive Phy. Ed teacher in Hermantown. Her daughter, Megan, was enjoying soccer at the Youth Games.

Robin said they’ve been a part of Arrowhead Youth Games for years and enjoys seeing kids with disabilities have fun in an environment where they can connect with other kids like them and play sports.

The Courage Kenny Institute is dedicated to offering adaptive activities for kids and adults with disabilities to improve self-confidence and encourage active healthy lifestyles.

Some of the other games include an obstacle course with balloons, pool noodle games, dancing, and  parachute activities.
