The Arrowhead Youth Games, by Northland Adaptive Recreation, offers everyone a chance to get in on the fun, serving youth with both physical and cognitive disabilities. The activities extravaganza at UMD showcases different adaptive recreation opportunities to over 300 students in the area.

This includes activities like climbing, dancing, parachute games, and much more.

Organizers say opportunities like this make a difference in life-long wellness. Mark Hanna tells WDIO, “For one thing, this gives people and opportunity to try adaptive cycling or adaptive archery. These kinds of recreation are things that they can go on and master and do for the rest of their lives.”

This program has been around since the 1980s and is made possible by ISD 709, adaptive Phys. Ed. teachers, and the University of Minnesota Duluth. Hanna also credits the 100+ volunteers who make the day possible.
