Back in June, Forsman was chosen out of three finalists to fill Elissa Hansen's seat. She stepped down to focus on her new position as president and CEO of The Northspan Group.

Forsman said he didn't get to this point alone and thanked his family, friends and future colleagues for their support.

"It's going to be fun, exciting, challenging, hard, and it already has been really rewarding," he said, "and I'm really looking forward to doing this work for the city and just putting my whole heart and soul into however long I have to do this job."

Mayor Emily Larson gave him some advice before he took the oath of office.

"Always remember how wonderful it is that people want to share what's on their mind, even if it's not in line with what's on yours," Larson said.

He will serve out the rest of Hansen's term, which ends Jan. 6, 2020. He said in June that he would wait to make any decisions about running for a full term until later on.

Forsman's first official city council meeting is Monday.
