Authorities say a witness came upon the truck, and was unsure if there was anybody in it. The owner of a cabin called 911 to report the driver of the vehicle was staying in their cabin approximately a mile from the scene.

First responders and Meadowlands Ambulance responded to the cabin to find the driver, Steven Morterud, 26 of Floodwood, who was able to escape the vehicle after going off road and overturning in the stream.

Authorities say Morterud ran to cabins until he found one that was occupied.

Morterud was transported to a Duluth hospital for precautionary measures due to exposure and possible hypothermia.

Authorities say speed and slippery roadways are believed to be the main contributing factors of the incident.
