6-year-old dies in snowmobile crash near Leech Lake

The Cass County Sheriff reports she and a 35-year-old woman were riding a 2004 Ski-Doo in their yard when the machine hit a stump and went down an emankment into a tree.

First responders tried to save the 6-year-old, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The 35-year-old woman was treated at the scene and brought to a Bemidji hospital for further treatment. 

It happened around 3:15 p.m. in Gould Township, a rural part of Federal Dam.

An autopsy is scheduled for the child.
